Altered states of consciousness

A diary of ASC is kept by the hansbernhardblog. Full courses of psychotropic pharmaceuticals are interspersed with foodstuff daily.

'Altered states' resources are also kept by Danah Boyd.

To achieve ASC without bio-chemical substances is descibed in Ancestral Power, The Dreaming, Consciouness and Aboriginal Australians, by Lynne Hume.

She "... seeks to further our understanding of human consciousness by looking through a Western lens at the concept of the Dreaming. She examines the idea that Aboriginal people may have used certain techniques for entering altered states of consciousness."

Time for a cup of coffee...

Great economic blogging, pity it is not kept current.

Elephant massacre

Elephants are being slaughtered by the Sudanese army in neighbouring countries to supply mainly the Asian market with ivory. According to a study by the UK-based charity Care for the Wild International (CFTWI) 75 % of the ivory is sold to Chinese traders and the rest goes to the tourist ‘craft trade’ for nick nacks.

The Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) has banned ivory since 1990, but most of the tusks in circulation now are from recent kills. According to the study 12,000 elephants are killed each year.

Why does this mega-fauna, which stomped the Earth for ages have to be pulped for no good reason?
