Winter counts is an online exhibit by the
Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The indigenous people
of America, the Lakota, marked their lives by drawing pictures of
special events on calenders which are known as winter counts.The Flash
site leads through the history and culture and explains who the Lakota
were and how they lived. It has a very nice way of counterposing old
photography with their original paintings.
