
At the entrance to this harbour where the ships sail by to supply the millions of inhabitants of the city with their everyday "needs" is a high rock platform with dwarfed plants on it, dwarfed by the extremes of the nearby Pacific Ocean. When it is hot at the beach it is cool up on the headland.
This dense small vegetation supports unusual bird populations including the New Holland Honeyeater which swiftly flies around chasing moths and small insects. Presumably it also eats some honey at times but I have never seen this happening.
At night small marsupials come out including an endangered bandicoot and various types of leaf-eating possums.
This is a perfect place to watch the moon rise over the ocean in the east.
